Motion picture directors strive to tell interesting stories set in compelling worlds. In this creative process physicists can help them in a variety of ways. Professor Alejandro Garcia (San Jose State Univ.) has been a physics consultant for DreamWorks Animation since 2011 with screen credit on Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted and Mr. Peabody and Sherman. He also teaches Physics of Animation, a course developed with the support of the National Science Foundation. In this talk Prof. Garcia will describe his work on DreamWorks Animation's recent film, Trolls.
Meet Alejandro Garcia
Professor Alejandro Garcia has taught in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at San Jose State since 1989. Dr. Garcia is the author of the textbook, Numerical Methods for Physics, and has published over 90 professional articles in the fields of computational physics, statistical mechanics, and fluid mechanics. He also teaches "Animation Physics" and has consulted on numerous animated feature films with screen credit on: Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted; Mr. Peabody and Sherman; Trolls.
