This talk will discuss how unmanned satellites, locally designed and built, have provided profound support for our national security from the Cold War to the present. Some topics of how satellites work, such as the GPS navigation system, will be explained. The talk will end by looking at the exciting role satellites will play in our future and some career opportunities in this field. Examples and stories come from the speaker’s 25 years of experience in the Space Division of Lockheed Martin Company in Sunnyvale, California.
Meet the Speaker:
Jim Foster has been involved in the design, construction, launch, and on-orbit operation of unmanned satellites for 25 years at Lockheed Martin Company in Sunnyvale, California. He has also taught mathematics for 10 years at Santa Clara University. He has a Ph. D in mathematics.
