Tiny Computers, Big Sound: Where Music Meets Engineering

Tech/ Sciencedeep-tech / AI / audio engineering / entrepreneurship

Ricardo A. García is an engineer and a musician. He shows how music, sound, and engineering meet, from a phone that names songs without the internet to a wearable that listens to the lungs, and how advanced AI can run on a tiny battery in your pocket.

Meet the Speaker:

Ricardo A. García (known as rago) is an engineer and a musician. He is Audio Architect at Meta Reality Labs and Tech Special Advisor at Samay, a startup building a wearable and software that use sound to help monitor a chronic lung disease. Originally from Colombia, he studied electronic engineering at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín, then earned master's degrees in Music Engineering Technology at the University of Miami and in Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Media Lab. In 11 years at Google he worked on audio for Android, pitched Sound Amplifier, an accessibility app that has passed 100 million installs, and built the team that revamped Now Playing, the Pixel feature that names songs around you. He holds more than 50 patents, has published research in audio and hearing science, and used to compose and produce music with his project Señal Nocturna.
