Immunology and the science of fighting infections.
Science
Hosts have evolved two ways of dealing with infections: The first is to prevent the growth of pathogenic organisms. The second is to simply not care that the pathogens are present. My group is concentrating on this second method, by first understanding how hosts tolerate infections and second coming up with methods of improving disease tolerance.
Meet the Speaker:
David grew up in Ottawa, Canada and attended the University of Toronto as an undergraduate. He got his Ph.D. at UC Berkeley, performed a postdoc at UCSF and ran a lab as a Fellow at the Whitehead Institute before taking his job in the Microbiology and Immunology Department at Stanford. David is currently studying infections and is trying to interrupt the process to reduce the symptoms suffered by sick patients.
