How Do Cellphones Make a Connection?
Technology
My company uses micro-mechanical resonators to steer different frequencies to the appropriate parts of you phone - GPS, WiFi, many different bands for data and voice as well as the out-going signals to the various antennas in the phone. I'll talk a little bit about how this works and show what these components look like and how small these components have gotten that go into a cellphone (or watch-phone).
Meet the Speaker:
Grew up in Bloomington Indiana. Graduated with B.S. in physics at Yale. Worked in superconductivity in graduate school (Ph.D. in physics at UC Berkeley) and my first job in New York. Switched to microwave acoustic resonators and filter design for cell phones after moving to Hewlett Packard Laboratories in 1997
